Jovan's Wish
When Make-A-Wish Foundation volunteers Michele Klucar and Sharon Maley asked Jovan what his one true wish would be, he knew that it would involve his strong passion for art and drawing. His wish was to see how they create cartoons in an animation studio. He was also interested in taking art classes and to be able to experiment with different types of mediums.
We contacted the Art Institute of Philadelphia and they asked to see a sample of Jovan's drawings. Jovan sent them at least 30 different full color characters he has made in the past, there were many to choose from. The professors at the Art Institute were extremely impressed with his talent and very excited to work with him.
The school scheduled one-on-one animation classes with Instructor, Willie Moore. Willie's goal was to teach Jovan how to create his own animated short with audio and sound effects directed by Jovan himself. Over the next few months Jovan and Willie met for one hour each week to create Jovan's own animated short.
Once Jovan's work was complete, the Art Institute of Philadelphia arranged a private screening party to unveil Jovan's animated short. The president of the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Dr. Bill Larkin attended the screening along with Jeff Otto, Erik Hershey, Willie Moore, Melanie Wright and Sharita Green of the Animation Department of the Art Institute of Philadelphia. Jovan's family and Make-A-Wish Foundation volunteers also attended the screening party.
Willie Moore explained to the attendees how truly talented Jovan is and that Jovan was unknowingly learning 4 different college-level computer programs for animation. Willie was very impressed with Jovan's ability to learn each program so easily.
Jovan's short was a hit, and he received a full round of applause and cheers. Jovan left this experience with a new outlook on his future, and the confidence that he can achieve his dreams.
