Maia's Wish

Maia's wish was to visit Disney World. Following is how Make-A-Wish Foundation volunteer Larry Steinberg summed up his participation:

Having been a wish parent who took his son to Disney World and Give Kids the World Village, I felt a special warmness in presenting Maia (and her family) her wish gift of a trip to the same place that my son and I had such a wonderful experience.

Along with Wish Volunteer Yvonne McCann we both saw the face of Maia as we presented her with the backpack and gifts it included with the promise that she would be meeting Minnie Mouse very shortly, along with her Disney friends.

Just being able to see the look on Maia's face makes working with this Foundation so rewarding.

    Maia and Ed
We were greeted by the nicest man in the world, Ed Nagle! Maia loved him and we did, too! They rubbed Mickey's nose for good luck! What an unbelievable way to be greeted in Florida!

Ice Cream
The daily ice cream cone - this one was for breakfast.

After the family's return, we received this letter from Maia's mom:

Trunky
Good 'ole Trunky! Trunky was Maia's very favorite part of Give Kids The World. Feeding Trunky paper was a daily routine and no day was complete without it! We miss you Trunky!!

Maia and the Gang
Maia and the Gang in a private get together. WOW!

Fooling Around
The gang foolin around with the kid...she was lovin it!

Dear Mr. Heron,

Maia recently had a wish trip to Disney in January.

Words cannot even express...and will never be able to express the gratitude we have for this wish being granted. This trip made an impact on us that is so far reaching - we will never be the same people nor will the people who know us be the same. The level of volunteerism that we experienced went far beyond what I ever thought was possible. Give Kids The World was just an unbelievable fairy tale place.

We met so many other families in pain. We never felt before like anyone understood but we knew that everyone there did. Maia made friends with a local family and we hope to stay in touch with them.

One moment I will never forget was when Give Kids The World was pretty empty this one particular morning. Goofy and Pluto were walking around and both took Maia's arm and walked her to the Gingerbread house (where we ate breakfast). The whole family was inside and I was lagging behind just so I could take in what was going on. Pluto came out first and met me outside. I proceeded to give Pluto a hug...and then started sobbing and wailing. Can you imagine a 45 year old woman sobbing on Pluto's shoulder?

I will NEVER forget this moment. I never felt so much love in my whole life.

Thank you for making this trip possible for Maia and for us. Thank you for giving my family an experience we will never forget. And thank you for devoting yourself to children and families in special need.

God bless you and your organization- and especially Larry Steinberg and Yvonne McCann.

Bless you all,
Francine, Lou & Maia & Adena
