Mille wasn't sure what her wish would be when Make-A-Wish Foundation volunteers visited in September but by the time they left, she had decided on a bedroom makeover.

Her initial theme was "hippy" but that soon changed many times. The final decision was a carousel theme and her room was redone from bottom to top! New carpeting was added, carousel wallpaper and border - even the ceiling was wallpapered to create a "tent effect".

Millie also chose new furniture with a distressed antique white theme. She got a new desk with a hutch, a dresser, a night stand and, best of all, a canopy bed! The canopy, comfortor and accessories were all custom made from fabric that Millie and her mother had chosen.

The work on Millie's room took 4 days, and she was not allowed to see it until everything was delivered and in place. Finally, volunteers Susan Zehren and Merri Harsch (at left with Millie) added the finishing touches including a carousel music box.

It was well worth the wait to see the surprise on Millie's face! She was thrilled and looked forward to finally being able to sleep in her new carousel bedroom.


Here's a letter we received from Millie's parents shortly after her wish was granted:

Dear Foundation Staff and Friends,

I want to thank all of you for your thoughtful and kind response to Millie's wish for a new bedroom. Susan and Mary were so attentive to every detail in decorating her room to her liking. She is still moving things about and has said many times that she can't believe that it is really her room. She has even been inspired to a new level of picking up her clothes and putting her things away. That has been a granted wish for me.....
